McDonald's franchisee can be terrible...
Industry: Restaurant
Annoyed By: McDonald's
It wasn't until the past few months that I noticed that some McDonald's do not offer refills and have different service standards.
I placed a call to HQ about this issue and they advised me that certain franchisee McD locations are allowed to do as they please.
Here's the story: I ordered a combo meal at a Mcdonald's mall location, my medium beverage was filled full of ice and pop. At that time, i didnt really care less about my cup being full of ice as I was always accustomed to the free refills. Apparently, this location does not offer free refills. I was quite suprised and disappointed by this fact as I was not informed during my purchase and nowhere on the menu stated this fact. Had I known, I would of requested to have not as much ice and more pop.
Now, I am not a cheapie that mooches off free refills but I feel that, as a consumer, I have the right to know about these things. I don't feel it necssary to always ask about whether they charge more for this or do not offer that anymore when other McD locations do. It's McDonalds! We all grew up on it and expect the same consistency in all Mcd venues.
I do also understand that some venues may have a slight increase in their food prices due to demographic regions (airport locations etc) and that the current economy is slow -- But, does NOT offering free refills or charging for extra bbq sauce really make that much of a difference to risk losing a devoted customer permanently? Why don't they just charge you extra for ketchup if that is the case to make a few extra bucks?
Needless to say, I will never goto that McD located in the mall again. If you see that the pop vending machine is behind the counter, it means that they wont offer any refills and may also charge extra for other condiments. Keep that in mind for all you frequent McD goers~

Its Fun To Slide On Greasy Floors!
While waiting in line at the Sooke, BC McDonalds I noticed the employees "sliding around" in the food preparation area. Then I noticed they were coming out into the "waiting line" area, tracking all the grease out of the kitchen. I started "sliding around" while waiting as well and couldn't believe they would not take the time to clean up this obvious safety hazard. When it came my time to order, I showed them the hazard and they said they didn't have time to clean it. At the same time he was saying this, one staff member fell onto her back while trying to manovre around the fry station. I immediately called the head office in Victoria (which I found in the white pages) and explained the situation to the lady. The fact that the grease was being tracked into the restaurant and right by the Kids play area as well could definately be a big liability to them. She was very happy I called. In a week, I received 5 coupons for Big Macs, 5 coupons for ice cream, 5 coupons for fries and 5 coupons for fountain drinks. But I wasn't satisfied with that really. I wanted to see if they actually cleaned the place up and that it didn't happen again. So with my free coupons I basically hung out in McDonalds to see what would happen. The next day I saw an older new person there, which turned out to be an area manager who was sent down to see the issues for themselves. The next day I saw all the staff really cleaning! I casually asked one "wow, you guys are cleaning..." and the staff member said "yeah, apparently someone complained and now we have to do this...." The next day I saw two older area managers holding a meeting with staff about cleanliness. Then finally the next day I actually saw a Workers Compensation Board worker and a Health and Safety guy from the government meeting with the area manager. So the situation was actually dealt with and hopefully the grease will stay in the food and not on the floor!

McDonald's @ Kings Place Mall Sucks!
Industry: Restaurant
Company: McDonald's
I used to go there on a regular basis... being the only McDonald's in downtown Fredericton, there was no alternative to find my Big Mac / Quarter Pounder fix. I used to have an unhealthy addiction to these burgers, and I would always order bacon just to ensure an imminent heart attack.
@ this McDonald's, the customer service is terrible. The staff are painfully slow, almost meticulously and methodically slothful: not as though it were deliberate, but more like "Damn! I can't rush some with Downe Syndrome" slow. Sometimes I would wait at the counter for up to three minutes (that's 10% of my lunch time) while the staff moseyed and joked, or swept or wiped at greasy spots here and there. Don't let them fool you. They do not have a mental dysfunction, they are just poor employees.
When the chance occurs where they decide they have completed enough of their duties to squeeze my order into their busy routine, they get it wrong. Where is the bacon? Where are my double patties? I'm 99.9% certain I ordered two burgers (remember, the exact same order I gave you yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that, ad infinitum), why is there only one? Here on the receipt, where it says 1 Big Mac (mit Bakon!) and 1 Quarter Pounder (altso mit Bakon!). What does dbl mean?
Once I'd managed to get them to initiate any adjustments or additions to my order, I'd have to wait even longer. The average visit to this junk hole would last me between 8 - 15 minutes.
I also feel compelled to point out that the hygiene of the staff there was questionable. It was the wiping of noses and coughing around the food that ultimately forced me never to return, not to mention some employees just seemed... gross.
I work in a customer service role. I do a good job, and when I don't I hustle to fix what I did poorly and make every possible effort to salvage the customer experience / personal integrity.
Thanks to this McDonald's, though, I have beaten my burger addiction, and have never visited another Golden Arches since. Sometimes on warm nights of introspection and ponderance, I like to imagine that these people I have dismissed as pathetic excuses for a labour force were really altruistic angels: feigning incompetence that they may save my life... thank you, gnarly toothed, mole faced, freaks!

Rude Manager - McDonald's Queen/Spadina
Industry: Restaurant mv
Company: McDonalds
Most of the time that I go there, the manager (short Asian lady) also tends the cashier. She's always grumpy, rude and impolite. Always, always, I have been polite and cheerful when I order but I just got a frown in return. I thought McDonald's valued their customer service?!
I know that area attracts less desirable characters, but she doesn't have to be disrespectful to the patrons!

Hair in my burger
Industry: Restaurant
Company: McDonaldsmv md
Well, first off the service at this particular McDonalds is extra slow [usually takes around 10mins it get my orders and i use to go alot] and their rude service I get from them does not help the situation at all.
Finally, one day I decided to get my regular egg mcmuffin meal, I went back to my office opened the wrapper and found a piece of hair stuck on the cheese. To make matters worse, it looked more like pubic hair. It was disgusting, so I went back and asked for a refund and the reaction I got from the cashier was the opposite of what I expected. She took the egg mcmuffin out of my hand and smirked, she went to the back and started laughing really hard with her co-workers and made me wait about 5 minutes for them to finish laughing. I was already really pissed off by them and when she came back to the front she didnt bother to apologize to me actually she never said a word to me and just gave me my money back.
At this point I've had enough of their rude service, I've tolerated them before but after this incident it pushed me over the edge. I ended up calling the Mcdonalds headquarters and filed a formal complaint, and the next thing I did was informing health canada and told them the whole situation. I'm not sure if what I did changed anything but I was glad I told someone that would somewhat care about what happened to me. And I've never had Mcdonalds since then and chose a healthier lifestyle.
