Disney the Death of Customer Service and The Rise of Policy

Location: Other, Colorado
Industry: Tourism
Annoyed By: Disney Cruise Lines, Disney World

My wife and I through American Express booked a vacation for a Disney Cruise. Our vacation included 5 days at the Caribbean Hotel Resort and 5 days on the Cruise. We booked this in December 2009. During the summer of 2010 a few months prior to the vacation we realized that at the Hotel we would like to purchase the meal plan. We checked the criteria and it said we had to be at a Disney Resort and needed to be longer then a two day stay. I told my wife to give the AX agent a call and have him book it. The AX agent returned me with this.
"If a cruise passenger wants to add on the dinning option to the hotel portion of the cruise, it can not be added on. Since the pre hotel nights are part of a cruise and booked through the Disney Cruise Lines and since they operate separate from the Walt Disney World Resort Vacations, they can add on the transfers, air, park ticket to the booking but the one thing that they cannot add on is the Dinning Packages. The Dinning Packages are exclusive to the Walt Disney World Resort Vacations only. "

Upon readings I was confused and I thought there had to be something done, I fit the criteria and I was paying just as much if not more then the people booking through the Walt Disney World Resort Vacations. They wouldn't just scam the Cruise Liners people out of this option completely.

Immediately I called my agent and was put on a three way conversation with Disney Cruise LInes. I explained to her that I don't take a lot of family vacations and I would like to purchase the dinning plan while I am at the resort for 5 days. After a couple of no's I was transferred to the supervisor.

Finally someone that can make sense of this, the supervisor (Raja) said, "Sorry this policy was enacted in 2010 and there is nothing we can do for you. " I then commented on the fact that in 2009 you were able to purchase these packages. She repeated the same thing and added that they were two separate entities.

I then explained to her that at one point in my life I worked in the hospitality industry and that there was always something that can be done. She repeated the same thing again and told me that she would have to hang up because she didn't understand why I didn't understand that Disney Cruise Lines is a separate entity and had nothing to do with the Resorts .
I was starting to get a perturbed at this point and asked if the Cruise Lines were truly an entity of Disney, specifically asking her if Disney cuts her checks. She returned, "I am unable to divulge that information."

"So you are telling me that you guys are not Disney or you are telling me that your organizations are unable to communicate between each other and you have no ability to talk to the resorts and straighten this out."
She again reiterated the same thing and that she did not understand why I could not understand.
Again perturbed, "But you admit I fit the criteria."
"Yes, you fit the criteria."

I asked her why then , "Why the cruise lines are able to sell land packages if they cannot sell the entire package. Doesn't that not elude to false advertising."
"She said your agent should have told you this and if I have problems with the booking I should be talking to him."

I told her that that is the reason I am calling to straighten this out. And that this information was not brought forth at the time of the booking in 2009. My agent would not have known. "
She said that I could cancel my reservation and book through Disney resort, I explained to her that I am average Joe that takes a vacation once a great while and I am going to the magical kingdom where I am not feeling very magical at because nothing magical is happening. I also told her that I did not have time to rebook everything over.
She said, "Sorry I felt that way. And that I would need to handle this through my reservationist."
I explained to her that this would be completely different if I was trying to scam something but all I was trying to do was pay for a meal package.

She repeated the policy again.

I asked so there is nothing at all you can do and you're our not affiliated with Disney.
Her reply was the same reiterating the policy.

Blown by the lack of customer service, by the price I was paying for the trip and by the entire policy itself, I explained to her that this was the worst customer service I had every had and hung up.

My conclusion was that there was over 15,000 dollars invested in this vacation and that Disney does not care about customer service. They feel that they can scam their way into making more money by enacting policy that do not allow Cruise Line people the same options as the Resort people even though they fit the criteria completely.

Recently I have cleaned my son's closet out of all Disney related stuff and I have turned the TiVo off of all Disney related shows. I have no interest in this policy making money grubbing cooperation at this point.

Air Canada has the worst customer service I've ever seen!

Location: Ontario, Mississauga
Industry: Tourism
Annoyed By: All customer service representitives

Long story short: Our flight was delay for 9 hours to NYC and we were stuck on the plane for 9 hours until AC finally told us our flight is CANCELED! We were starving and we were not allow to buy food but I see the flight attendant serving drinks and snacks to the executive class customers. I know executive class customer paid a lot more for the flight, so we weren't expecting the snacks to be free, but we can't even purchase food or drinks! After our flight was canceled, they did not provide any instructions for our rescheduled flight, they made us wait for another hour to get our luggage because they forgot to unload the luggage from the plane and when we finally found the Air Canada customer service counter, we had to line up for another 2 hours to find out our flight was rescheduled to the next day at 8 am. By that time it was already pass 12 am, so we have to be back to the airport at 6 am. On our returned flight from NYC, our flight was delay again for 5 hours and like last time AC did not provide any customer service or updates. When I e-mail AC to complaint, this is the e-mail I got:

Dear Ms. Liu,

Thank you for your follow up.

Again to clarify, when we are told to cancel flights by Air Traffic Controllers, we often have no say in the matter and have to do what we are told by these government agencies.

The Executive Class cabin is much smaller than the Economy cabin, which makes a quick clean up much easier and these guests pay a huge premium for additional service. If you are interested in the "extras", you are welcome to purchase a seat in this cabin on future flights. We make no apologies for providing extra service to these high profile customers.

Also, we do not offer compensation for weather problems, simply good will on occasion, therefore we are unable to provide the compensation you are seeking.

Sincerely,
Jeremy

What kind of customer service is that? He made it sound like I deserve their bad customer service because I wasn't paying for their executive class service. This is why Air Canada has such a bad rep because they these type of people working for them! You should never be allow to reply to an e-mail like this if you work in the customer service department!

Travel Scam

Location: Alberta, Red Deer
Industry: Tourism

Hi Folks:
I don't know if this is the kind of information you want on this site or not. If not, don't publish it and please send me an e-mail so I don't send you this kind of stuff again.
At any rate, if you receive a $1,600 voucher from some scam outfit called Ramada Plaza Resorts, throw it away. It is a scam!! If you type RPR/OFV into your search engine you will get a page full of people who were conned by these crooks. Maybe this is a legit complaint: I hate stupid crooks. If they had even bothered to check they would find that I can't get into the U.S. Dummies!!

Hostelling International Whistler

Location: British Columbia, Whistler

Annoyed By: Abusive staff

I stayed here and watched the staff belittle, berate, and abuse people. It made the atmosphere really tense to have to be exposed to such horrific customer service and I know several others felt the same way.

False low price guarantee

Location: Quebec, Montreal
Industry: Tourism

I recently booked a hotel room (in the U.S.) through Orbitz based on their best price guarantee and was charged $184.00 for two nights. When I checked out of the hotel, the hotel bill showed a total cost of $144.00.

When I contacted Orbitz (three different times) about the $40.00 overcharge, they said that at the time of booking that was the best price, and that I would not get a refund. Their logic was that if the price had gone up, they wouldn't have charged me more, so I should be happy (which is absurd as once you have paid in full, the price is cannot go up) . They never could rationalize their best price money back guarantee.

Needless to say, I will never use Orbitz again, and strongly suggest that everyone avoid them. Their guarantees are worthless. Their are many more booking agencies that honour their commitments.

Called to complain about the owners children operating golf cart in a very unsafe manner and the owner came down and told me"what her kids do is none of my F&%%&ing business" wow I was shocked. Careless driving should not be acceptable from anyone whether they are park members or owners of the park or their staff.

Ghost Credit Card Charges

Location: Ontario, Toronto
Industry: Tourism
Company: Expedia.ca

I was looking for flights on expedia in Oct/07 and couldn't book due to a "technical error" when confirming the flight at ~$200. I phoned expedia and they tried to book over the phone without success and told me to try later.. Later the price increased to $630 and I did NOT attempt to book.

A week later I get a call from Continental to tell me I need to check into NWA at the airport. I again did not book anything, phoned expedia and they said nothing is booked and my credit card won't be charged.. 2 days before the flight my credit card gets charged $630. I phone continental and they say it was booked through expedia, I phone expedia and they say it shows up as "Not booked". I phone my credit card company and they say there is nothing they can do.

After several late phone calls and waiting hours on hold I get a CSR in expedia that I convince to call continental to see my credit card is charged... They do and offer me credit for future flying, but then look into it more and offer me a refund of $620 in 7-10 business days to my credit card...

It has been 15 business days and no credit back... soon I will be charged interest...

Don't use Expedia website! It may charge your card for no reason whatsoever on itineraries you saved and did not book!

Hairy Situation

Location: Alberta, Hinton
Industry: Tourism
Annoyed By: Days Inn Hinton

My husband and I left early from Alberta to head home back to BC. We ended up arriving into Hinton and after hitting up 3 hotels before hand, came across the Days Inn. We booked their last room (non-smoking) and for a reduced rate ($10 off). Needless to say, when my husband showered, there was hair in the bathtub. To top it off, the room was either a smoking room, they lied about it, or someone had smoked in there. Too bad that reduced rate didn't happen as well!
