Don't buy fish from Wal-Mart

Location: Ontario, Toronto
Industry: Retail md
Company: Walmart

Wal-Mart has a bad customer service. Went there to buy a few pleco fish for my tank so it can eat up all the algae on the window side. The pleco cost about $2.87 each. Some other place sells it for $5.49.

So I went to ask for assistance and see if there are any staff that can help me out. I went to the toy section and asked the person who was in control of the department and asked that I need assistance for the pet department. So he called the PA system for assistance at the pet section. Waited for 20 minutes and no one came. Called again, and waited for another 20 minutes but no one came.

I got pissed and left. Can't believe this was the lame thing. So I went to another pet store and bought the bigger pleco for $10.

Btw, this happened to STC and Markville mall too. So basically, I went to STC first and no one helped me out so I went to Markville mall but still no one helped me out.

  1. I totally know what you mean, this happened to me as well, same place. I don't even know why they bother to call, clearly they knew no one was going to come anyway!!!

  3. Hmmm. It's nice to see people who complain when they don't even work at these places. I am a teacher who spends my summers working at Wal-mart. Now is it really the associates fault that there is no staff? If they can't get someone what can they do - the fish are locked up and they don't carry the keys. Now instead of complaining of that poor soul who DID try to help - if you want improve service perhaps you can do it better and start by applying for a job. I hate when people blame automatically the staff or management when perhaps they should just take their nose out of air (or their butts) and realize that it can't be helped and perhaps just learn some patience and consideration and appreciation for those who work these minimum waged jobs and can only do so much.

  4. About this last comment...you're NEVER EVER supposed to let the consumer know that there isn't any staff. You're offering a service, you should be trying to the best of your ability to help them out, regardless if you're understaffed or not. The consumer doesn't care if the place is understaffed, as almost everywhere is. You should still be able to offer exceptional customer service despite being a few people short. A company stating that they are short staffed is a cop out.

  5. I had a similar experience at a Wal-Mart when I wanted to buy an electric razor that was locked up. No one had keys and no one knew who had the keys. After 30 minutes I gave up and left.

  6. I think all Wal-Marts are intentionally understaffed (more profit), poor pay for the 'associates' who are brainwashed into not unionizing and therefore not ever dealing with the short staff issue, or better wages etc .... just my point of view

  7. So because Walmart is "understaffed", anyone who wants to buy anything that is locked up is S.O.L? That makes perfect sense.

  8. I work in a retail store and the VERY FIRST thing they told us when we started training is you NEVER tell a customer you can't help them or there is no one around to help them. If you honestly don't know the answer or are unable to help them, you say "Let me find someone who can" and then you FIND THEM. That's just basic customer service.
